James Cracknell was asked by Regus International to become involved in their annual sales conference for their staff. Regus International , one of the UK's fastest growing companies, provides serviced offices for clients all over the world.

They looked at James to be a key member of there motivational strategy to encourage their staff to strive that extra yard for success. James, as a member of the now famous British Coxless Four at the Sydney Olympics, was delighted to be a part of the video, that included three directors of Regus International.

The objective was to recreate the moment of winning the Olympic final in Sydney and using existing footage and digital technology the four members of the boat would be revealed at the end of the race. Three out of the four members would be shown to be Directors of Regus International, and James to be the fourth.

FISA Team Cup

The GB squad missed out by two points to Spain in the FISA Team cup. However, lots of different combinations were tried out in the event, as Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell not only won both days in a pair, but doubled up with Louis Atrill & Ed Coode on Saturday to take the coxless fours title too. Matt and James also doubled with Toby Garbett and Steve Williams and won their race on the Sunday. Tim Foster took part in single and double sculling events.

Pinsent to go for his fourth gold

Matthew Pinsent plans to continue rowing to seek a fourth Olympic gold medal at Athens in 2004. He will confirm this at the Leander club today and is believed to be planning to pair with James Cracknell, who rowed bow at Sydney in the gold medal coxless four, which Pinsent stroked.

This would suggest that Tim Foster has heeded medical advice that his back problems are such that he should stop rowing since he would be the logical partner in a pair with Pinsent. He will also announce his plans today. This combination won a world junior gold medal in 1988, while Cracknell and Foster were the fasted pair in last year's ARA trials. Should Cracknell now join Pinsent he will have to switch to bow-side but he is a good sculler and this should not be a problem.

Jurgen Grobler, the men's chief coach, does not begin to form his final crews until after the April trials, but if this pair are to train together they could well challenge for a gold medal at this year's world championships in Lucerne. Grobler will announce his future policy today and this will involve five of the gold medal Olympic eight who are continuing, as well as Greg Searle and Ed Coode, who finished a close fourth at Sydney and could challenge Pinsent and Cracknell.

Among the candidates to replace those retiring from the eight is Richard Dunn, the stroke of the world champion coxed four, who could alternatively stroke a new four.

Record dry run for Redgrave

Sir Steven Redgrave was back rowing yesterday and he broke another world record. Not on the water though, but the stage in his old school hall. He and his nine Leander team mates, including Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell, took part in a 100,000 - metre relay on an indoor rowing machine at Great Marlow School. They raced against a collection of fearsomely tatooed rugby players and fitness fanatics from Royce's Gym in Wigan - the previous record holders in this event.

Egged on by deafening screaming and whistling from a posse of schoolgirls, the team of adonises won in 4hr 23 min, smashing the record, set by the hard nuts of Wigan last year, by more than 17 minutes.

Two hours into the contest, with the Chariots of Fire theme music booming out, the superior technique and stamina of the Leander team, containing five Olympic gold medallists, began to tell. Cracknell, who is known to his mates as Crackers for his severe training routines, even had the energy to roam around signing autographs and chatting to his girlfriend in between stints.

'Tiring, but fun,' was Pinsent's assessment of the event. Redgrave, who had rowed only twice since Sydney, was worried that he might let the side down. He didn't, of course, but says he has 'no plans' to get on the rower again. Well, we've all heard that one before.

Olympic champion James Cracknell recorded the fastest time of the day to win the men''s 5000m trial at Boston, Lincolnshire this afternoon (Saturday).
